Give Said the Little Stream - Passing Sticks

Partner Version:

Ask for a volunteer to come to the front to help demonstrate. Sit on the floor facing each other. Use one rhythm stick for the pair. Explain that when we sing the word "give" we will pass the stick back and forth, by rolling it on the floor to each other.

Sing the song, demonstrate rolling the stick back and forth.

Tell all of the children to find a partner and pass out one stick to each group. Sing the song while everyone passes the stick back and forth with their partner.

Have the children to find a new partner and repeat.

Group Circle Version:

Have everyone sit on the floor in a big circle. Give every child one stick.

Explain that when we sing the word "give" we will pass the stick to the right.

Sing the song, passing the stick to the right every time we sing the word "give."

Repeat the song, but this time pass the stick to the left when we sing "give."

Extension idea:

Ask the children how many times we passed the stick.

Tell them to count in their minds while we sing the song again, while passing the sticks.

How many times did we pass the sticks?
