Put the melody map charts on the board in random order.

Ask, "What do you see? What do you notice? What do these pictures have to do with the song?"

Receive the answers.

Sing the song.

"What does this have to do with the song?"

"What do the heights of the dots represent?"

"Which chart should be first?"

Sing the song again and ask the children to help put the charts in order.

Repeat the song until all of the charts are in the correct order.

Extension activity:

Cut out the symbols and place them randomly on the board outside of the melody map.

Have the children take turns putting the symbols on the corresponding dots.
