This idea comes from Teaching Primary Music.  I cannot find a link, but I made a print-out for the large symbols that she used. Here's how it works. Put the symbols on the board in random order.

Ask "what do these symbols have to do with this song?"

Sing the song. 

Ask again, "what do these symbols have to do with this song?"

Sing again until the children identify all of the symbols.

Answers:

Room = room

Morning = sun

Think = pointing to head symbol

Pray and Today = purple rhyming symbol

Savior and Favor = yellow rhyming symbol 

Sue = vertical rectangle

Name = name tag

Shield = shield

Extension activity:

Ask the children to only the words that have yellow and purple.  Repeat the song.

Ask the children to sing all of the pictures. Repeat the song.

Remove a few of the pictures. Sing again.

Remove all of the pictures and sing again.
